From Tap Water to Transformation

Growing up in Brisbane during the ’70s and ’80s, I couldn’t stand the taste of tap water—it was foul.

Even as a kid, I struggled to drink enough water.

Things improved slightly when my family moved to Central Queensland during my teenage years. We had adjoining rainwater tanks with our neighbors, and I’ll never forget the pure, refreshing taste of rainwater straight from the tap in the kitchen. Today, rainwater isn’t considered safe to drink without filtration, but back then, it was incredible.

When we moved again—to Rockhampton—things changed. Without rainwater tanks, my parents invested in a water filter to remove the debris and foul taste from tap water. It was a game-changer. For the first time, we were drinking water regularly as a family.

Fast Forward: Adult Life and Bottled Water As an adult, I still disliked tap water. Without a home water filter, I often relied on water filters in workplaces or stores. Working in the liquor industry—a physically demanding job that required lifting heavy cartons of beer and wine—staying hydrated became a priority. Convincing my employer to invest in quality spring water for our staff was a win. At least for a while, we were drinking better water and avoiding heat stress.

Then came the rise of bottled water.

It seemed like a great solution: convenient, marketed as “straight from the spring,” and supposedly pure. But clever marketing masked the truth. Over time, I began questioning what I was drinking.

Was bottled water really as good as it claimed?

The deeper I looked, the more I uncovered. Bottled water was often just tap water, repackaged and stored for months in warehouses. Worse, the plastic bottles leached microplastics when exposed to heat.

I was paying for convenience, not quality. Stress, Dehydration, and the Turning Point By 2018, I was at my breaking point. Stress was consuming my life—work frustrations, family pressures, and the endless grind of trading time for money. Despite drinking bottled water and two cans of Coke or Pepsi daily, I was constantly thirsty. Even beer, my grounding ritual, wasn’t enjoyable. The first two beers never quenched my thirst; it wasn’t until the third or fourth that I could savor the flavor.

I started asking myself deeper questions: •

Why wasn’t bottled water hydrating me? •

Why did I feel so stressed and depleted? •

Could the water I was drinking be part of the problem?

The answers led me to alkalized and molecular hydrogen water. I discovered that the pH of water matters—acidic water isn’t optimal for our bodies.

Switching to Kangen water, with its 9.5 pH and molecular hydrogen, was a revelation.
